spring break

Just hangin' out. That's what we have planned for this Spring break. We are pretty excited about this break from our normal school week to-dos.  These two cuties have been really sweet with each other lately.  It is such a pleasure to witness their brother/sister connection and to imagine their friendship when they are much older and living their own lives.  A very endearing experience to be a part of. It's truly a first for me as I am the youngest of my siblings by 8&10 years. So lovely. So sweet. So very special!

ROCKin'

How to hollow out and drill holes into rocks. Yes Please!!!  I just happened upon this how-to following a pinterest picture to its source.  I am excited to give this a try.

I have yet to try for myself. I have copied and pasted these helpful pointers from the blog

Materials Needed:
High speed rotary tool a large drill press or a dremel tool works well.
Pointed masonry drill bit or a hollow, diamond-tipped coring bit. For drilling holes in smaller stones used in jewelry, a 2.5mm diameter bit is a good size.
Plastic container to hold water so you can drill your stone under water. Drilling underwater cools off the bit and which will speed up your drilling and keep your stone from over heating.
Adjustable wrench to hold your rock in place while drilling.
Goggles
Small sedimentary rocks (sandstone, limestone, etc when scouring the beach for rocks, these tend to be well rounded)

1. Put on your goggles.
2. Using your wrench, firmly hold a rock inside your container, just beneath the water. Hold them steady.
3. Turn on the rotary tool and hold it perpendicular to the rock. Press firmly but gently. Do NOT rotate the hand holding the rock or else the rock will crack. The water will become cloudy, but that's fine. Continue to push firmly until the bit pokes through the other side.

inspiring leather works

There is something so Urban Cowgirl about leather. I enjoy working with leather, using the natural edge of the hide to dictate the final design has to be my favorite part.  Heyoka Leather has been an inspiration to me for a couple of years now as well as the beautiful photography of Alexandra Valenti.  Above is some of their most recent work together. Enjoy.

I have mentioned them both before here, here and here.

folkloric amulets

Amulet necklaces that reflect my admiration for the folklore and traditions of different native cultures.  The wolf tooth from Tibet and the buffalo tooth like those used by American Indians. Often worn as symbols of protection, good fortune or to represent status. These are my own special interpretation as I strongly respect  the story of similar adornments throughout history.  Made with love for the life lived and the life to be lived.  Folkloric Amulets.

Spring Dreamin'

(found here)

Spring is my favorite season for it always brings with it hope and daydreams.  Spring is so close.
I have many new projects to look forward to that are inspiring my dreams today.  I am excited to share them here as they grow and blossom into reality. I feel my spirit singing with the idea of it all like the singing birds I here outside my window in the morning.  I hope you are blessed with inspiration as Spring time quickly makes its way to warm our toes and brighten our days.

Nova Scotia bound

From Acadiana to Acadie!

Another one of those special dresses from my mother's personal vintage collection.  This bright yellow cotton dress is vibrant with personality.  A comfy cotton dress that celebrates the 80's.  After sitting in my shop for more than one spring time now it is finally on its way home, to Canada. For some fine lady to wear with a smile.

Rings.

I am really excited about these rings. They are very simple and organic. All made with adjustable antique brass bands. Chunky natural stone rocks and mountain river rocks we just brought home with us from our many waters edge walkabouts. As well as the very limited special bullhead find.

I love how displayed on a bed of moss they look as though they have just been excavated from an archeological site or something.

bull-headed

This is a ring. It is a bit bold for my style but I actually love it and I am keeping one for myself. Being the taurus that I am I can sometimes be bull-headed. I was not on the hunt for these but when I came across them I could not pass them up. Only 3 available and who knows if I will come across such a find ever again.  Casted bull head is on an antique brass adjustable band. I'm selling these for $40 if you are interested in having one for yourself comment here or email me at bayoubohemian@gmail.com.  Happy Friday and Happy 3.1.13.
